The Baseball That Turned Into a River

Tommy loved his red baseball more than anything in the world. He'd found it near the old oak tree behind his house, and it sparkled like it held a secret inside.

One hot afternoon, Tommy took his ball to the park. He threw it high, but instead of coming back down, the baseball kept floating upward, glowing brighter and brighter! Tommy chased it until it landed in a small pond he'd never noticed before.

"Hello!" said a voice. Tommy looked around but saw no one. "Down here!" A green frog sat on a lily pad, wearing a tiny baseball cap. "I'm Finn. That's my favorite baseball!"

"Your baseball?" Tommy asked, amazed.

"Yes!" Finn hopped excitedly. "Every hundred years, the Magic Baseball visits a new friend. Are you my friend this time?"

Tommy nodded, grinning. Suddenly, the baseball began to spin. Splash after splash of water sprayed out, forming a magical baseball diamond floating above the pond! The bases were made of crystal, and the pitcher's mound was fluffy clouds.

"Want to play?" Finn asked, growing to Tommy's size. "This is Water Baseball!"

They played the most wonderful game ever. When Finn hit the ball, it rained small fish that danced in the air before splashing back into the pond. When Tommy hit it, stars shot out and made music. The water from the pond formed tiny spectators who cheered every time someone scored.

As the sun began to set, Finn grew smaller again. "The baseball must return to the pond," he said sadly. "But our friendship stays forever."

Tommy understood then. The magic wasn't in the ball—it was in playing together, in making friends, in sharing joy. The baseball wasn't special because it was magical. It was special because it brought them together.

"Will I see you again?" Tommy asked.

"Every time it rains," Finn promised. "Every raindrop carries a hello from your friend."

That night, Tommy fell asleep smiling. Outside his window, rain began to fall, and each drop seemed to whisper, "Thank you for playing. Thank you for being a friend."

And somewhere in the pond, the Magic Baseball waited for the next child who needed a friend, and the next wonderful game that would begin with a simple toss into the water.
