The Baseball That Time-Traveled
Leo loved his baseball more than anything in the world. It wasn't just any baseball — it was his grandfather's, with seams like ancient rivers and a smell like summer sunshine.
One afternoon, while playing catch in his backyard, Leo threw the ball higher and higher. It sailed up, up, up until it disappeared into a cloud that suddenly turned the color of a ripe orange.
"Oh no!" Leo cried. But before he could blink, the cloud swirled into a giant spinning pyramid right there in his grass!
Inside the pyramid floated his baseball, glowing like a tiny moon. Leo stepped through the golden doorway, his heart pounding like drumbeats.
"Who enters?" a deep voice rumbled.
From the shadows emerged a bear — not a scary bear, but a magnificent creature with fur the color of autumn leaves and eyes full of starlight.
"I'm Leo," he whispered. "I'm looking for my baseball."
The bear smiled, revealing kind brown teeth. "Ah, the Sphere of Dreams. Many have sought it, but only the pure of heart may possess it."
Leo gulped. "I just want to play catch."
The bear's eyes twinkled. "Play? That's the magic word!" He pressed his paw to the wall, and the pyramid transformed into the most beautiful baseball field Leo had ever seen — with bases made of silver and grass that sparkled like emeralds.
"Will you play with me?" Leo asked.
"I haven't played in a thousand years," the bear said, but he was already grinning.
They played until the orange sun dipped below the horizon. When Leo finally headed home, the bear gave him a gentle nudge.
"Come back anytime, my friend. The best games are the ones we share."
Leo ran home with his baseball, his heart full of magic and the knowledge that the best adventures are the ones that bring new friends together.
