The Baseball That Sprouted Magic

Lily hated her baseball games. She always struck out, and the other kids laughed. One afternoon, she sat crying near the old water fountain behind the field. Her curly hair stuck to her tear-streaked face as she dropped her lucky baseball into the flowing water.

Suddenly, the water began to glow! A tiny green hand emerged—then another! Little people the size of fireflies climbed out, dripping wet. They had emerald skin and wore caps made from spinach leaves.

"We're the Spinach Sprites," said the smallest one, wringing out his leafy hat. "You've freed us from the water curse!"

Lily blinked. "But I only dropped my baseball..."

"Exactly!" cheered a sprite girl with flowers in her green hair. "Your baseball is the Seed of Courage! Now we can finally have our baseball games again!"

The sprites showed Lily their hidden baseball field—inside a giant pumpkin! They played with acorns and used spiderwebs for bases. But something was wrong. The sprite boy's spinach leaf cap kept falling over his eyes because it was too big.

"That's because you're scared," Lily realized. "I used to wear my hat low too, when I was afraid."

She taught the sprites how to stand tall, how to hold their acorn-bats with confidence. In return, they taught her the Spinach Spin—a special way to swing that made the ball sail like a shooting star.

That evening, Lily returned to her real game. The sprites hid in her hair, whispering encouragement. When she stepped up to bat, she remembered the Spinach Spin and swung with all her heart.

*CRACK!* The ball flew over the fence—her first home run!

From that day on, Lily always shared her lunch spinach with the ground before games. The other kids thought she was crazy, but she knew the truth. Sometimes the best friends are the smallest ones, and courage comes in the most unexpected packages—even ones with spinach leaves.
