The Baseball that Rained

Lily held the cracked baseball in her hands. It had been her grandfather's, and the leather was peeling like old bark. She didn't have a single friend to play catch with—she'd just moved to this dusty town where everyone already knew each other.

That afternoon, she sat by the pond behind her new house, tossing the ball up and catching it. Up and down. Up and down. Then something奇妙 happened. When she threw it especially high, the ball didn't come down.

Lily gasped. The baseball hung in the air, spinning slowly like a tiny planet. Droplets of water from the pond rose up, swirling around it, glittering in the golden sunlight. The water formed a shimmering path leading into the sky.

She stepped onto the water path. It held her weight! She walked up, up, up until she reached the floating baseball. It glowed warmly in her hands, and suddenly she understood—this ball was magic. It had been waiting for someone who needed a friend.

Lily wished she had someone to share this with. The baseball pulsed with light, and a ripple of water shot out across the sky like a ringing bell. In the distance, she saw another girl her age floating on a water-lily pad, waving shyly.

"I'm Maya!" the girl called. "The magic ball called me too!"

For hours they played catch across the clouds, baseball soaring through rainbows made of mist. The water carried their laughter everywhere.

When the sun began to set, the magic ball brought them gently back to earth. But something had changed—the pond was now filled with glowing water-lilies, one for every child in town who needed a friend.

"Tomorrow," Maya said, "we'll invite them all."

Lily smiled, clutching her grandfather's baseball. She hadn't just found magic—she had found her best friend, and soon, many more. The ball had taught her the most important thing: the best magic is sharing wonder with others.
