The Baseball That Made Waves
Lily loved summer. She loved the way the sun painted her backyard gold, and she especially loved her above-ground pool. It was the perfect place to cool off after playing baseball with her best friends, Mateo and Zoe.
One hot afternoon, Lily hit her favorite baseball — a bright red one named Ruby — extra hard. It sailed through the air and landed right in the middle of the pool with a SPLASH!
"Oh no!" Lily cried. "Ruby's all wet!"
She reached in to grab it, but something strange happened. The baseball didn't sink. Instead, it bobbed to the surface and began to glow. Tiny ripples of light spread across the water, and suddenly, the pool wasn't just a pool anymore.
The water turned a shimmering blue, and little sparkly fish with baseball caps appeared, swimming in circles around Ruby. One fish — wearing a tiny umpire mask — blew an underwater whistle.
"Welcome to the Splash League!" bubbled the fish.
Lily called Mateo and Zoe, and together they leaned over the edge, amazed. The magical water creatures explained that they had been watching the children play baseball all summer. They loved the game so much, they created their own version underwater.
"Would you like to play?" asked a friendly octopus who served as the pitcher.
For the next hour, the three children played the most wonderful game of their lives. The pool became a magical stadium where fish cheered, crabs served as bases, and every splash was a celebration. They learned that games are even more fun when everyone — no matter how small or different — is invited to play.
As the sun began to set, the magical creatures waved goodbye. The water returned to normal, and Ruby floated to the edge, no longer glowing but somehow more special than before.
"We should play baseball together more often," Mateo said, grinning.
Lily smiled, holding up her lucky baseball. "Every day. And maybe, just maybe, our new friends will be watching."
