The Baseball That Flew to the Moon

baseballhairfriend

Mia had the curliest, wildest hair in the whole third grade. Every morning, her mom spent twenty minutes trying to tame it, but by lunchtime, Mia's hair was always bouncing around her head like a fluffy brown cloud.

"I wish my hair would just stay still," Mia sighed, flopping onto her bed after another hard day at school. The other kids sometimes made fun of her big, bouncy hair. Mia felt lonely. She wanted a friend who liked her just the way she was.

That evening, Mia heard a *thunk* against her bedroom window. When she looked outside, she couldn't believe her eyes. A baseball was glowing on her lawn—not just any baseball, but one that sparkled like it was filled with tiny stars!

Mia ran outside and picked it up. *WHOOSH!* The baseball suddenly lifted from her hands and floated upward, then swooped back down like it wanted her to follow.

"Where are you going?" Mia whispered, grabbing her favorite shoes and chasing after it.

The magical baseball led her through the park, past the playground, and all the way to the old oak tree where nobody ever played. There, sitting on a tree branch, was the most unusual girl Mia had ever seen. She had bright blue hair that changed color whenever she laughed!

"You found my baseball!" the girl exclaimed, jumping down. "I'm Luna. I sent it to find someone special."

"Your baseball... it glows," Mia said, awestruck.

"It only glows for people with magic in them," Luna grinned. "And look at your hair—it's practically dancing with magic!"

Luna reached out and gently touched one of Mia's bouncing curls. Suddenly, Mia's hair began to glow golden, just like the baseball!

"Your hair isn't messy," Luna said. "It's full of stardust. That's why it never stays still—it's too full of magic!"

For the first time in her life, Mia loved her wild, curly hair. She and Luna played catch with the magical baseball until the stars came out, laughing as Mia's hair changed colors with her happiness.

"Can you come back tomorrow?" Mia asked when it was time to go home.

"Every day," Luna promised. "That's what friends do."

Mia skipped home, her big, beautiful hair bouncing with every step. She couldn't wait for tomorrow—and for the first time ever, she couldn't wait to see what her hair would do next.
