The Baseball That Dreamed of Flying

Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he'd grab his worn leather glove and head to the park, dreaming of hitting the perfect home run.

One afternoon, while chasing a foul ball into the woods behind the field, Leo discovered something extraordinary. A massive orange bull with golden horns stood beneath an ancient oak tree, peacefully munching on wild oranges that grew from its branches.

"Hello there," Leo whispered, his heart racing.

The bull lifted its head and spoke in a voice like warm honey. "Hello, young friend. I've been waiting for someone who loves baseball as much as I do."

Leo's eyes went wide. "You know about baseball?"

"I was the greatest pitcher in the magical realm," the bull said with a gentle smile. "But I grew lonely and came here, where the oranges are sweetest. Would you like to play catch?"

Leo nodded eagerly. They played until sunset, the bull throwing perfect pitches that sparkled like stars. When Leo's phone pinged with his mom's reminder to come home, he reluctantly said goodbye.

"Come back tomorrow," the bull said. "I'll teach you my secret pitch."

Every day that week, Leo visited his new friend. The bull, whose name was Barnaby, taught him that the best magic comes from patience and kindness, not just strength. "A true champion," Barnaby said, "lifts others up instead of knocking them down."

On the last day of summer, Leo used Barnaby's magical pitch to help a nervous new kid make his first hit. The boy's smile was better than any home run.

"That's real magic," Barnaby said, watching from behind the trees. "Friendship is the greatest victory of all."

That night, Leo fell asleep with his baseball glove on his chest, knowing some friends come in the most unexpected shapes and sizes — even orange-loving bulls who dream in home runs.
