The Baseball Palm Tree
Tommy loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he'd grab his worn-out glove and head to the old empty lot behind his house. But today was different. Today was the big championship game, and Tommy's stomach felt like it was doing flip-flops.
"I'm going to mess up," he whispered, sitting against a twisted old palm tree at the edge of the field. "Everyone will laugh."
The palm tree seemed to shiver in the gentle breeze. Suddenly, something small and shiny fell from its leaves and bounced off Tommy's nose.
"Ouch!" Tommy rubbed his nose and picked up the tiny object. It looked like a golden vitamin, but it sparkled like a little star.
"For the boy who needs courage," whispered a voice like rustling leaves. "Take this, and believe."
Tommy popped the magical vitamin into his mouth. It tasted like sunshine and peppermint. Suddenly, his baseball glove began to glow warm in his hand, and he felt a tingle of confidence spread through his chest.
"You can do this," he told himself. "You've practiced every single day."
When Tommy stepped up to bat that afternoon, something amazing happened. The baseball sailed toward him, and time seemed to slow down. He saw everything clearly—the spin of the ball, the position of the fielders, the perfect spot to swing.
*CRACK!*
The baseball flew higher and farther than anything Tommy had ever hit. It arced through the sky like a shooting star and landed right beside that old palm tree beyond the outfield fence.
"HOME RUN!" everyone cheered.
But the real magic wasn't the home run. The real magic was that Tommy finally understood what the palm tree had taught him: sometimes the most important vitamin isn't one you swallow—it's the one called believing in yourself.
From that day on, whenever Tommy felt nervous, he'd touch his baseball glove and remember the wise old palm tree. And somehow, he always found exactly the courage he needed inside himself all along.
