The Baseball of Courage
Tommy loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he'd grab his glove and run to the park, dreaming of hitting the perfect home run. But there was one problem—Tommy was afraid of the ball. Whenever it came flying toward him, he'd duck and cover his eyes.
One afternoon, while sitting alone on the bench, an old woman with silver hair walked by. She noticed Tommy's sad face and reached into her pocket. "This," she said, pressing something into his palm, "is a magic vitamin for your heart."
Tommy looked down. It was a tiny, glowing baseball made of crystal!
"Hold it when you need courage," she whispered with a wink, then disappeared behind the old oak tree.
The next day, Tommy's team was losing by one run. Bases were loaded. It was his turn to bat. His hands trembled as he stepped to the plate. Then he remembered the crystal baseball in his pocket.
He clutched it tight. Suddenly, he noticed something strange—a shimmering cable stretched from the baseball across the sky, like a telephone wire to the stars. It pulsed with golden light.
Taking a deep breath, Tommy swung. CRACK! The ball soared higher and higher, following that magical cable all the way to a cloud! When it came down, it landed right in the center of the distant field.
"HOME RUN!" everyone cheered!
Tommy's teammates lifted him onto their shoulders. He had faced his fear and won! That night, he looked at the crystal baseball again. The cable was gone now, but something remained—the courage inside his own heart.
Sometimes the bravest thing isn't hitting a home run. It's stepping up to the plate even when you're scared. And sometimes, magic comes from the most unexpected places—even a tiny glowing vitamin for your soul.
From that day on, Tommy never ducked again. Not because the magic made him perfect, but because he learned that true courage isn't about not being afraid. It's about being afraid and doing it anyway.
The crystal baseball stayed on his nightstand, a reminder that the biggest adventures begin with one brave step.
