The Baseball-Loving Bull
Leo was the smallest boy on his baseball team, but he had the biggest dreams. Every Saturday, he played in the dusty field behind his house, always hoping to hit the ball just like the big kids.
One hot afternoon, Leo's baseball rolled through a hole in the fence and landed in Farmer McGregor's pasture. Leo tiptoed through the tall grass, following the red stitches of his ball. Suddenly, he heard a snort.
A massive black bull stood nearby, staring at Leo's baseball with surprisingly gentle eyes. But something magical happened — the bull nudged the ball with his nose and sent it flying back to Leo! Leo caught it, his eyes wide with wonder.
"You like baseball?" Leo whispered.
The bull nodded, and Leo gasped. This wasn't just any bull. His name was Bessie, and he was the most special bull in the whole world.
Every day after school, Leo would sneak back to the pasture. Bessie would hit baseballs with his powerful nose, and Leo would practice catching them. The bull was better than any player Leo had ever seen!
Then came the hottest day of summer. Leo's team was down by one run, and it was his turn to bat. The sun beat down on the dusty field. Leo felt nervous, but then he remembered something magical.
"Wait!" Leo called to his teammates. "I have an idea!"
They walked to the nearby creek where Farmer McGregor's bull was cooling off in the water. Bessie loved swimming almost as much as baseball! The bull splashed happily, cooling everyone down with joyful sprays of water.
Leo invited his whole team to swim with Bessie. They laughed and played in the cool water, forgetting about the game for a while. When they returned to the field, something wonderful had happened. They weren't just teammates anymore — they were friends.
Leo stepped up to home plate feeling confident. He remembered Bessie's gentle strength and hit the ball higher and farther than ever before. His team cheered!
They won the game, but Leo knew the real victory was finding a friend who showed him that being different — whether you're a small boy or a baseball-loving swimming bull — is what makes you special.
From that day on, Leo and Bessie proved that the best friends come in the most unexpected packages, and that magic lives wherever you find joy in being yourself.
