The Baseball Cloud Bear
Tim sat by the sparkling lake, his baseball glove resting on his knee. It was a hot summer afternoon, and he had been practicing his pitching all by himself. He wished he had a friend to play with, but all the other kids in the neighborhood were away on vacation.
Suddenly, a baseball rolled out from behind a large oak tree. Tim picked it up, confused. "Hello?" he called out. "Is anyone there?"
The lake began to ripple and glow. Slowly, a magnificent bear rose from the water - but this wasn't any ordinary bear. It was made entirely of swirling water and mist, with droplets that sparkled like tiny diamonds in the sunlight. The water bear smiled at Tim.
"I've been watching you practice," the bear said in a voice that sounded like gentle waves. "My name is Splash. May I play?"
Tim's eyes widened with wonder. "Really? You know baseball?"
Splash chuckled, and little bubbles floated up from his water body. "I've watched many games from this lake. Baseball is the most wonderful game!"
They played for hours, and Splash was amazing. When Tim pitched, Splash would catch the ball in a splash of mist. When Splash hit, the baseball would fly higher than any ball Tim had ever seen. Tim laughed so hard his stomach hurt. He had never had so much fun in his whole life.
As the sun began to set, painting the sky in beautiful shades of pink and orange, Splash grew quieter. The water bear's body began to shimmer.
"I must return to my lake now," Splash said gently. "But thank you, Tim. Today, I found something more precious than any treasure - a true friend."
Tim felt sad to see his new friend go, but his heart felt full and happy. "Will I ever see you again?" he asked.
"Whenever you come to the lake with your baseball glove," Splash promised, "I'll be here, waiting to play."
With one last splash, Splash melted back into the water, leaving only small ripples on the surface. Tim walked home with a big smile, already planning tomorrow's game. Sometimes, he discovered, the best friends appear in the most magical and unexpected ways - even rising from the water to play baseball on a summer afternoon.
