The Baseball Bull's Secret Pool

Lily pushed open the creaky wooden gate, her worn **baseball** glove tucked under her arm. It was the last day of summer, and she wanted to practice her pitching before school started again. But as she stepped into the meadow behind her house, something made her stop.

There, standing in a patch of golden flowers, was the most magnificent creature she had ever seen. A massive **bull** with fur the color of storm clouds and horns that gleamed like polished silver. But this wasn't any ordinary bull — this bull was wearing a dusty old baseball cap!

"Hello there," the bull said, his voice deep and rumbly like distant thunder. "I'm Barnaby. Would you like to play catch?"

Lily's eyes went wide. "You can talk? And you play **baseball**?"

Barnaby chuckled. "Of course! Why should being a bull stop me from having fun?" He pulled a baseball from somewhere in his flowers. "But first, I have something wonderful to show you."

The bull led Lily through a secret path in the woods she had never noticed before. The trees seemed to lean in, whispering ancient secrets. Suddenly, they stepped into a clearing where the most beautiful **pool** sparkled under the sunlight. The **water** wasn't blue or green — it shimmered with every color of the rainbow, like someone had spilled a jar of liquid diamonds.

"This is the Wishing Pool," Barnaby said softly. "One wish each summer, for anyone pure of heart. But here's the secret — the best wishes are the ones you make for others."

Lily thought hard. She could wish for anything — a million toys, to be the best baseball player ever, to fly like a bird. But then she thought about her **friend** Mateo, who had broken his leg last month and couldn't play outside anymore.

"I wish," Lily said clearly, "that Mateo could run and play again, and that we could play baseball together forever."

The water swirled with magic, glowing brighter and brighter until Lily had to close her eyes. When she opened them, a beautiful silver baseball floated on the surface.

"Your wish is granted," Barnaby smiled. "And Mateo will find this tomorrow — it will always bring him luck."

That autumn, Mateo's leg healed completely. And every summer, Lily and Barnaby the Baseball Bull returned to the magical pool, not to make wishes for themselves, but to spread joy to others who needed it most. Because Barnaby was right — the greatest magic of all is being a true **friend**.
