The Backyard Portal

Lily couldn't sleep. The full moon spilled through her window like magic, calling her outside. In her pajamas, she crept to the backyard and gasped. The swimming pool wasn't filled with water anymore—it shimmered with stardust!

Suddenly, a furry nose poked through the sparkles. A bear! But not a scary bear—this one had twinkling blue eyes and fur the color of autumn leaves. He tumbled out, shaking glitter from his ears.

"I'm Barnaby," the bear rumbled softly. "From the Realm of Wonder. Our pool got mixed with yours!"

Lily's eyes widened. "You mean... my pool is a portal?"

Barnaby nodded, then spotted something glowing in Lily's hand—her iPhone. "What magic is that?"

"It's called a phone," Lily explained. "It shows pictures and lets us talk to friends."

Barnaby's eyes sparkled. "In my world, we lost the ability to share memories across distances. Can you show me?"

Lily opened her photo album. There were pictures of her dog, her family, her birthday party. Barnaby watched, enchanted, as her fingers swiped through moments of joy.

"Friendship," he whispered. "That's what my world needs. We forgot how to share happiness."

The pool began to ripple. Barnaby's time was ending.

"Wait!" Lily cried. She snapped a picture of them together—girl and magical bear, framed by stardust. "Now you'll always have a friend, and I'll always remember you."

Barnaby pressed his fuzzy forehead against hers. "Thank you for sharing your world's magic. True friendship isn't about being close—it's about keeping someone in your heart, no matter how far away."

He slipped back into the pool, which turned back into ordinary water. But in the morning, when Lily looked at her phone, the photo was still there—Barnaby smiling beside her, stardust caught in his fur.

Sometimes the best friends are the ones who visit briefly but stay in your heart forever. And the pool? On full moon nights, if you look closely, you can still see it sparkle, just a little bit, with the memory of magic.
