The Backyard Mystery Squad
Lily and Leo were the best detectives on Maple Street. Every Saturday, they put on their special spy glasses and solved important mysteries. One Saturday, something strange was happening in Mrs. Green's garden.
"Look at that!" whispered Leo, pointing through the fence. In the middle of Mrs. Green's beautiful garden was a shiny blue pool. But beside it, something very odd was moving. It swayed and shuffled, its arms dangling loosely.
"Is that... a zombie?" Lily gasped, her eyes wide behind her spy glasses.
The zombie was green and bumpy, moving slowly in the sunshine. Lily and Leo knew they had to solve this mystery! Was Mrs. Green in danger? Should they call for help?
"Stay here," said brave Leo. "I'll spy closer."
But Lily shook her head. "Real spies stick together!"
Hand in hand, they tiptoed through the gate. The zombie didn't notice them. It just kept swaying, reaching its leafy fingers toward the sparkling pool water.
"Hello?" Lily called out softly.
The zombie stopped moving. Then Mrs. Green popped up from behind it, laughing!
"Oh, hello there, little spies!" she said, wiping dirt from her hands. "Would you like to meet my new friend?"
"Your... friend?" Leo asked, confused.
"This is Zombi the plant!" Mrs. Green explained. "It's called a zombie plant because it looks like it's sleeping standing up, even when it's awake. See?" She gently touched the plant, and its fuzzy leaves perked up. "And Zombi just loves swimming!"
Mrs. Green showed them how she carefully placed the zombie plant's pot partly in the pool so it could drink the water. The plant really did seem happier, its leaves stretching toward the sunshine.
"We thought you were in danger from a real zombie!" Lily giggled.
Mrs. Green smiled kindly. "Sometimes things that seem scary at first are actually just misunderstood. The best spies know to look closer before they worry."
Lily and Leo learned an important lesson that day. They also helped Mrs. Green plant marigolds around the pool, making her garden even more beautiful. And every Saturday after that, they stopped by to say hello to their friend Zombi the zombie plant.
The Backyard Mystery Squad had solved another case — and made a wonderful new friend along the way!
