The Backyard Magic Pool
Lily pushed open the back gate and gasped. The old swimming pool shimmered with an otherworldly blue glow, even though it had been empty for years.
"Wh-what's that?" whispered Oliver, clutching his iPhone like a flashlight.
"Maybe it's magic," Lily whispered back. She'd always believed in impossible things.
Suddenly, a zombie trudged around the corner! But instead of looking scary, this zombie wore a tattered baseball uniform and carried an ancient bat. He groaned sadly, shuffling toward the glowing pool.
Lily's cat, Muffin, arched her back and hissed, then curiosity won over fear. She crept forward, tail twitching.
"Wait!" Lily called gently. "Are you okay?"
The zombie stopped. He pointed at the pool, then at his baseball bat, and made a throwing motion.
"He wants to play!" Oliver realized.
Lily's eyes widened with wonder. "But it's filled with... MAGIC water now!"
The zombie nodded, then smiled – a surprisingly kind smile. He tossed his baseball into the pool. Instead of sinking, it floated and glowed brighter, transforming into a sphere of pure light.
"Your turn," Oliver said, handing his iPhone to Lily. "Take a picture!"
Lily snapped a photo just as Muffin batted at the glowing ball with her paw. FLASH! The pool's surface rippled like a rainbow.
"Whoa," breathed Oliver.
The zombie clapped his hands slowly. More magical balls appeared – some became stars, some butterflies, some tiny musical notes that filled the air with melody.
They played until sunset, a zombie, two children, and one very brave cat, turning an empty pool into the most magical ballpark ever.
That night, Lily wrote in her journal: Sometimes the scariest-looking things just want to be friends. And magic? It's everywhere – even in your own backyard.
