The Backyard Detective

Lily loved being a spy. Every Saturday, she grabbed her magnifying glass and rainbow notebook to solve mysteries in her backyard. Today was special—her best friend Tomas was coming over!

"What's our mission?" Tomas asked, adjusting his homemade spy hat made from newspaper.

Lily pointed to the garden. "Someone—or something—has been eating my dad's spinach plants! We must catch the culprit!"

They tiptoed past the swimming pool, where Lily's little brother was splashing. But then Lily gasped. A slow-moving figure shuffled toward the vegetable patch!

"It's a zombie!" Tomas whispered, eyes wide.

The creature groaned, arms stretched forward. Lily wanted to run, but she remembered her spy training: always investigate first.

"Wait," she whispered. "That zombie has a bell around its neck!"

It wasn't a zombie at all—it was Barnaby, the neighbor's old bull! He'd escaped his fence again. The poor bull looked tired, his brown eyes sad.

"He's not eating the spinach," Tomas realized. "He's just lonely!"

Lily's heart melted. Being a spy meant helping others, even four-legged ones. They led Barnaby back to his farm, where the grateful neighbor gave them fresh carrots as thanks.

That evening, Lily wrote in her rainbow notebook: "BEST MYSTERY SOLVED: Sometimes scary things are just friends we haven't met yet. And real spies solve problems with kindness, not just clues."

The backyard spinach was safe, and Lily had learned the most important lesson of all: adventure is wonderful, but kindness is the greatest superpower of all.
