Superfood Super Spy

Maya's **iphone** buzzed with another notification from the group chat: 'Healthy lunch initiative! Who's in?' She stared at her locker shelf where a sad container of **spinach** leaves sat beside a single **orange**. The Healthy Lunch Committee had become her social ladder—her ticket to fitting in at Northwood High—but the performance was exhausting.

"Join us, Maya!" chirped Chloe, popping beside her locker. Chloe was the kind of girl who made *eating salad* look like a political statement. "We're doing a vitamin challenge. You document every superfood you eat, get points, winner gets profiled in the school paper!"

Maya nodded, stomach twisting. "Sounds... fun."

But by lunch, Maya found herself hiding in the library, watching the Healthy Lunch crew through the window. They weren't eating. They were scrolling, giggling, taking aesthetic photos of untouched food. Chloe caught Maya's eye and waved—like she *knew*.

That night, Maya's phone lit up: 'Nice try being a **spy**, but we saw you lurking 😂'

Her heart hammered. She'd been exposed.

'Whatever,' Maya typed back. 'Your spinach was clearly decoration anyway.'

A pause. Then: 'Touché. Meet us at the beanbag chairs tomorrow. REAL lunch. No cameras.'

The next day, Maya sat cross-legged between Chloe and Marcus, passing around a bag of cheesy chips. They laughed about teachers, complained about AP Chem, and Marcus admitted he'd failed the vitamin challenge on purpose because he couldn't stand kale smoothies.

"I thought you guys were, like, perfect health influencers," Maya said.

Chloe snorted. "We're teenagers. We just like the aesthetic. But you? You actually eat the spinach."

Maya shrugged. "My mom's a nutritionist. I can't help it."

"That's honestly way cooler," Marcus said. "Can you teach us how to make it not taste like sadness?"

Maya smiled. For the first time, she didn't have to perform. She could just be Maya—the girl who ate vegetables, the girl who didn't fit in, the girl who found her people anyway.

Sometimes, the coolest thing you can be is yourself. Even if that means being the person who actually enjoys spinach.
