Stormy's Magical Garden Soup
Mia loved storms. When other children hid under blankets, she pressed her nose against the window, watching lightning paint the sky in bright streaks. But tonight's storm was different.
A bolt of lightning struck her backyard garden with a soft pop instead of a crash. Curious, Mia crept outside in her yellow rainboots.
"Brrrump," grumbled a voice from the vegetable patch.
Mia jumped. A small green figure with ragged clothes and messy hair sat beside her spinach plants. He looked a little like a zombie from her storybooks, but his eyes were kind.
"I'm not scary," he said. "I'm Zed, and I'm hungry."
Zed reached for a spinach leaf, but his hand shook so badly he kept dropping it. Mia watched him struggle.
"You need water for the plants," she said gently. "But you also need patience."
"I was once the garden's best helper," Zed sighed. "But I forgot how to care for things. Now I just stumble around dropping everything."
Mia had an idea. She filled her watering can and showed Zed how to pour gently around the spinach plants. "See? The water helps them grow strong. Like kindness helps people grow strong too."
Zed tried again. This time, he moved slowly. His green fingers steadied as he watered each plant. The spinach leaves seemed to sparkle in the moonlight.
"Thank you, Mia," Zed smiled, and his whole face brightened. "You reminded me that taking care of things means taking time with them."
The rain fell softly around them as they worked together. When the sun rose, Mia's garden was greener than ever, and Zed stood tall and proud, no longer stumbling.
"Come back anytime," Mia waved as Zed disappeared into the morning mist.
And every storm after that, Mia watched for lightning—not because it was exciting, but because she knew magic could bloom in the most unexpected places, especially when you opened your heart to help someone who needed it most.
