Sparky's Lightning Catch
Max loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon, he and his golden retriever Sparky played catch in their backyard. But today, dark clouds gathered overhead as Max threw his favorite baseball.
"Catch it, Sparky!" Max called. Sparky bounded through the tall grass, his fur gleaming like sunshine. But just as the dog leaped for the ball, a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky!
The lightning didn't strike the ground. Instead, it zapped right into Max's baseball! When Sparky caught it, the ball glowed and crackled with magical energy.
"Woof!" Sparky dropped the glowing ball, looking surprised.
Max's grandmother appeared on the porch. "Ah, you've found a lightning ball! Those only appear during magical storms. But Sparky will need something special to catch it safely."
She handed Max a tiny orange pill. "This is a courage vitamin. It'll help Sparky believe he can do anything impossible."
Max wasn't sure about feeding his dog a vitamin, but Sparky wagged his tail eagerly. Gently, Max placed the vitamin in Sparky's favorite dog treat. Crunch! Sparky swallowed it whole.
Almost immediately, Sparky's eyes twinkled like stars. He barked confidently at the glowing baseball.
"Throw it again!" Max's grandmother whispered.
Max tossed the lightning ball. It zipped through the air leaving a trail of sparkles. Sparky leaped higher than any dog could jump—higher than the roof, higher than the trees! With a joyful bark, he caught the lightning ball in his mouth.
But instead of getting hurt, Sparky glowed! He could fly! The dog zoomed around the yard carrying the lightning ball like a magical trophy.
"You did it, Sparky!" Max cheered. The courage vitamin had worked!
That night, Max learned something wonderful: Sometimes the impossible becomes possible when we believe in ourselves—and when our friends believe in us too. And sometimes, the most ordinary things like vitamins and baseballs can become extraordinary magic.
Sparky slept curled around his lightning ball, dreaming of more adventures with Max. And Max? He knew that with courage and friendship, anything was possible—even catching lightning.
