Sparkle's Midnight Adventure
Lily loved her goldfish Sparkle more than anything in the world. Every day after school, she would sit by the blue bowl on her dresser and watch Sparkle swim in lazy circles, her orange scales shimmering like tiny pieces of sunset.
One evening, while Lily was watching Sparkle, the sky turned dark purple. Thunder rumbled like a giant tummy. Then—CRACK! Lightning flashed across the sky, a brilliant bolt of silver-white light.
Lily gasped. Through her window, she saw something magical. The lightning had danced right into her room and touched Sparkle's bowl!
Sparkle began to glow. She grew bigger and bigger until she could float right out of her bowl. Sparkle was now the size of a soccer ball, trailing sparkles like a swimming fairy.
"Lily!" Sparkle said in a bubbly voice. "The lightning gave me magic powers for one hour! Let's go on an adventure!"
Lily's heart beat fast with excitement. She grabbed her rainboots. Together they went running outside into the warm summer rain.
Sparkle swam through the air beside Lily, her scales glowing different colors. They raced through the garden, where Sparkle made flowers bloom just by swimming past them. They chased fireflies, which Sparkle could catch without hurting them—she simply nibbled their light.
"Look!" Sparkle cried. "The lightning left me a gift!"
In a puddle, Sparkle showed Lily a secret world—a tiny kingdom where raindrops were pearls and every splash made music. Lily and Sparkle danced in the puddle until their toes wrinkled.
All too soon, Sparkle began to shrink. Her glow faded.
"It's time to go back," Sparkle said sadly.
They returned to Sparkle's bowl just as the last of her magic disappeared. But that night, Lily noticed something wonderful. Sparkle's scales still shimmered a little bit brighter than before.
Lily learned that magic can be found in unexpected places—even in a thunderstorm. And true friendship, like the lightning's gift, leaves sparkles that never completely fade away.
