Social Pyramid Protocol
Maya dragged herself through the hallway, feeling like a straight-up zombie after three consecutive nights of finals-week crash studying. Her vision blurred, brain operating at 20% capacity, surviving on nothing but caffeine spikes and pure determination.
She wasn't just tired—she was on a mission. For months, she'd been playing spy, gathering intel on Lincoln High's legendary social pyramid. That invisible hierarchy where the popular kids reigned supreme at the top, while everyone else scrambled somewhere beneath.
"Maya! Wait up!" Jenna caught her elbow, eyes wide. "Did you see what Sarah posted?"
Maya nodded slowly. She'd seen it. Everyone had. Sarah, positioned at the pyramid's apex, had accidentally revealed her entire friend group's group chat screenshots. The betrayal. The drama. The absolute chaos.
"I'm leaking it," Maya whispered, pulling out her phone.
Jenna gasped. "You're gonna start a war."
"The pyramid is already crumbling, Jen. I'm just giving it a push."
The next morning, Maya woke up to forty notifications. Her post had gone viral. The social pyramid—once unassailable, rigid as stone—had collapsed overnight. People were reevaluating everything. The untouchables weren't so untouchable anymore. The invisible lines that divided us from them had dissolved.
Sarah caught her by the lockers, eyes blazing. "You did this."
"I didn't make you write those texts," Maya said, her voice steady despite her racing heart.
For a moment, Sarah's expression softened. "You know what it's like at the top? It's exhausting. Being perfect. Being watched all the time. I'm tired too."
They stood there in silence—two zombie girls from opposite ends of the social pyramid, both exhausted by the game.
"Want to get coffee?" Maya found herself asking.
Sarah actually smiled. "Desperately."
And just like that, the pyramid wasn't just crumbling—it was gone.
