Ruby's Magical Friend

The goldfish named Ruby lived in a small bowl on Timmy's nightstand. She was orange as a sunset and had sparkly scales that shimmered when the afternoon light hit them just right. Timmy loved Ruby more than anything. He would tap the glass gently, and Ruby would swim to the surface and blow tiny bubbles.

One evening, a storm rolled in. Thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy, and lightning flashed across the sky in brilliant bolts of purple and white. Timmy watched in awe through his window. Suddenly, a particularly bright lightning bolt struck the tree outside his window, and something magical happened.

Ruby began to glow with a soft golden light.

"I've been waiting for this moment," she said in a voice like tinkling bells.

Timmy gasped. "You can talk?"

"I can do more than talk," Ruby said. "I need your help. There's a friend who needs us."

The goldfish explained that her glow would let her swim through the air, and they needed to find a friend who was lonely and afraid. Timmy grabbed his raincoat, and Ruby swam out of her bowl, floating beside him like a tiny glowing balloon.

They ran through the rain, Ruby's light guiding them past the old Miller farm. That's where they found him: a massive black bull named Thunder, who had been separated from his herd during the storm. He was shivering in the rain, his eyes wide with fear.

"Hello, friend," Ruby said softly. "We're here to help."

The bull's ears perked up at her gentle voice. Timmy approached slowly, holding out his hand. Thunder lowered his massive head, and Timmy scratched behind his ears. The bull let out a contented rumble.

"We'll help you find your family," Timmy promised.

They spent the rest of the night running through fields, Ruby's golden light cutting through the darkness. When dawn broke, they found Thunder's herd in the next valley. The other cows gathered around, mooing happily as their friend returned home.

Ruby's glow faded as the sun rose. "It's time for me to go back to my bowl," she said.

Thunder nuzzled Timmy's hand gently. "Thank you for being a friend to me when I needed one most."

Timmy walked home, the morning sun warming his face. Ruby was back in her bowl, just a regular goldfish again. But Timmy knew she was anything but ordinary. Sometimes the best friends come in the smallest packages, and the biggest creatures just need a little kindness.
