Ruby's Magical Baseball Hair

Ruby loved her hair more than anything in the world. It wasn't just regular hair—it was magical! Whenever she laughed, her curls bounced like tiny springs. When she was happy, her hair sparkled in the sunlight like sprinkles on a cupcake.

But Ruby had a secret. Hidden in her room was a small glass bowl where Finley, her pet goldfish, lived. Finley wasn't an ordinary goldfish. He could change colors!

One sunny Saturday, Ruby was playing baseball in her backyard when something magical happened. She swung her bat and hit the ball right over the fence into Mrs. Higgins' garden. Ruby climbed the fence, but her long, curly hair got tangled in the rosebushes!

"Oh no!" Ruby cried. Her magical hair was caught tight.

Suddenly, she heard a tiny splash. Finley had jumped right out of his bowl and was flopping toward her! With a flash of golden light, the goldfish began to glow and grew until he was the size of a baseball. He rolled right over to Ruby's tangled hair.

"Don't worry, Ruby!" Finley bubbled. "My special goldfish scales can slip through anything!"

Finley wiggled between the thorny rosebushes, freeing each curl until Ruby's hair was loose again. As he worked, his scales changed from orange to bright pink to brilliant blue.

"Thank you, Finley!" Ruby hugged her magical fish friend. "But how will I get my baseball back?"

Finley grinned (goldfish can do that when they're magical). "Watch this!"

The goldfish transformed into a perfect baseball shape, complete with red stitching. Ruby picked him up and threw him high into the air. *WHOOSH!* Finley sailed over the fence, grabbed Ruby's real baseball in his mouth, and flew back like a boomerang.

"Best teammates forever!" Ruby cheered, hugging Finley as he changed back into a goldfish.

From that day on, Ruby always let Finley watch her baseball games from his special front-row seat on her head, nestled safely in her magical, curly hair.

Mrs. Higgins never did figure out how a baseball grew wings and flew back over the fence. Some magic is meant to stay a secret between best friends.
