Pyramid Scheme Sunset

The party at Kylie's house was supposed to be lit, but instead I was stuck in her backyard, staring at a pyramid of red Solo cups that reached my shoulder. My cousin Marcus had roped me into his "energy drink MLM" (aka a pyramid scheme), and now I had to sell these overpriced neon sludge to tipsy teenagers.

"You got this, fam," Marcus said, already three drinks in. "Just tell 'em it's got, like, ancient herbs and stuff."

I nodded, sweating through my palms. My phone buzzed — texts from my actual friends wondering where I was. Meanwhile, Marcus's dog, Buster — a chaos-fueled French bulldog — was currently trying to eat the pyramid display.

"Buster, NO!" I lunged forward, but too late. The whole thing collapsed, cans rolling everywhere. The dog barked like he'd won the lottery.

Kylie appeared, palm tree silhouettes framing her annoyed expression. "Um, what is happening?"

Before I could explain, something slammed against the backyard fence. A massive snout pushed through the wooden slats.

"Is that..." someone whispered.

"A BULL," I said. "That is literally a bull."

Turned out, the mini-farm down the road had a runaway situation. The bull stared at us like we were the weirdest thing it had ever seen. Buster, the traitor, waddled over and made friends.

We spent the next hour hiding behind the pool while animal control did their thing. Marcus kept trying to hand out business cards to the cops. Kylie actually laughed when I made a joke about how my pyramid scheme had literally been destroyed by a bulldog and a bull.

"You're weird," she said. "But like, in a good way."

We sat on her porch steps at midnight, sharing what was left of the energy drinks. They tasted like chemicals and bad decisions, but honestly? It was the best night of my life. Sometimes the worst plans lead to the best stories. And sometimes you find your people in the middle of total chaos. Plus, Buster finally let me pet him, so there was that.
