Pyramid Scheme Hair Disaster

Maya's palms were sweating so much she could practically water-ski on them. The bathroom mirror reflected a disaster: her hair, once cascading in perfect waves, now defied gravity in a triangle-shaped pyramid atop her head. The DIY box dye promised "caramel highlights," but apparently "caramel" translated to "construction orange triangle from hell."

"You look like a walking cheerleading pyramid," her best friend Jules said, leaning against the stall door. "But, like, a small one. A pyramid of one."

Maya groaned, frantically trying to flatten the rebellious spike. In ten minutes, she'd face Jason at the fall dance. The guy she'd been crushing on since orientation. The guy whose hair fell perfectly, like he woke up looking like a K-Pop idol.

Outside, the gym thudded with bass. Inside, Maya considered faking her own disappearance. Maybe she could palm herself off as a visiting exchange student from a country where triangular hair was trending.

"You know," Jules said, flipping her phone, "Jason's been trying to sell everyone on those protein shakes for weeks. It's literally a pyramid scheme."

"How does that help me?"

"It means he's into pyramid stuff. You're matching his aesthetic."

Maya stared at her reflection. The hair was awful. It was ridiculous. It was absolutely not going away in ten minutes.

"You know what?" Maya grabbed Jules's hand. Her palms had stopped sweating. "If I'm going to look like a pyramid, I'm going to own it."

She walked into that gym with her triangular orange hair like she was rocking the latest trend. Jason stared. Everyone stared. Maya's palms stayed dry.

"Nice hair," Jason said, grinning. "Bold."

Maya shrugged. "Just trying to reach new heights."

She didn't get the dance with Jason. But she got something better: the realization that sometimes the worst disasters make the best stories. And that confidence? Way better than perfect hair any day.
