Pool Party Protocol
Marcus felt like a total zombie as he dragged himself through Jessica's backyard gate. The pool party was already in full swing—music blasting, people splashing, and zero chill. He'd spent all night gaming, and now his social battery was at 1%. But when Jessica waved at him from the diving board, he perked up instantly.
"Hey! You made it!" she called, flipping her wet hair back like she was in a shampoo commercial.
Marcus waved back, trying to play it cool even though his heart was doing backflips. This was it—his chance to finally make a move after months of being stuck in the friend zone.
But then he saw HIM. Tyler. The guy who'd been flirting with Jessica all week on Instagram. Marcus suddenly went full spy mode, ducking behind a massive potted plant to assess the situation. He watched Tyler crack jokes and make Jessica laugh while Marcus stood there feeling like a total creeper.
That's when Buster, Marcus's goofy golden retriever who'd somehow escaped the house, came bounding through the gate like a maniac. The dog spotted Marcus immediately and made a beeline toward his hiding spot.
"Buster, no!" Marcus hissed, but it was too late.
The enthusiastic dog knocked into the potted plant, sending Marcus tumbling out of his spy position directly into the pool. The water was freezing, and he came up sputtering while everyone stared.
Jessica jumped in after him. "Are you okay?"
Marcus wiped water from his eyes, ready to die of embarrassment. But Jessica was laughing—not making fun of him, just... genuinely amused.
"That was literally the most epic entrance ever," she said, splashing him. "Tyler never would've done something that ballsy."
Marcus blinked. "Wait, really?"
"Really." She smiled. "You're always so quiet. I like this version of you."
Buster barked triumphantly from the pool's edge. Marcus realized his dog was a better wingman than he'd ever been. Sometimes you gotta crash (literally) to break through your own walls.
