Penny and the Fallen Lightning
Penny was collecting rainbows in her backyard when she saw it—a tiny, flickering lightning bolt, no bigger than a firefly, fluttering near the petunias.
"Hello?" Penny whispered, crouching down. "Are you lost?"
The little spark zipped excitedly, flashing brighter and dimmer like a heartbeat. Penny understood. It was lonely and far from home.
"I'll help you!" she promised. Her grandmother had taught her about storm vitamins—special ingredients that help weather magic stay strong. Penny knew exactly what her new friend needed.
"First, we need cloud fluff!" Penny said, pointing at a puffy white cloud drifting above. "Running fast is key!" She grabbed her sneakers and bolted across the meadow, her feet dancing through clover and dandelions, laughter bubbling in her throat. The lightning bolt zoomed beside her, leaving tiny sparkles in the air.
At the edge of the woods, Penny reached high and gathered a handful of soft cloud fluff that had drifted down. It felt like cotton candy made of dreams.
"Next, raindrop tears from the weeping willow!" They raced to the old tree by the creek, where Penny collected three perfect droplets that tasted like summer storms and wishes.
"Last, a pinch of thunder!" Penny laughed, scooping up some tiny pebbles that rattled just like distant rumbles.
Back in her garden, Penny mixed everything in her special rainbow bowl. The lightning bolt nibbled cautiously, then—ZAP!—it grew brighter and stronger, pulsing with joy.
"Thank you, friend," the spark seemed to say, spinning around Penny in a glittery hug.
That night, Penny watched her friend shoot back into the sky, joining a magnificent lightning dance. Sometimes, when storms come, she still sees a tiny spark flashing extra bright—and she knows it's saying hello to the girl who helped a fallen friend fly home again.
