Papaya Moon's Secret Vitamin
Lily's goldfish was not ordinary. His name was Fin, and he lived in a bowl on her nightstand, but every Tuesday night, he would glow like a tiny orange star. This Tuesday, Lily woke at midnight to see Fin floating above his bowl, his scales shimmering with magic.
"Come!" Fin bubbled, and suddenly Lily could understand him. "The papaya moon is ripe! We must catch its drops before sunrise!"
Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
"Only during papaya season," Fin explained. "Every hundred years, the moon transforms into a giant papaya for one night. Its drops contain the most powerful vitamin in the universe—the Vitamin of Wonder!"
Lily didn't ask questions. She grabbed her favorite umbrella, and Fin grew until he was the size of a dolphin. Together, they soared out her window and up into the starry sky.
Above the clouds, the moon glowed golden-orange, exactly like a enormous papaya. As they watched, glowing drops began to fall like orange raindrops.
"Quick!" Fin called. "Catch them in your umbrella!"
Lily swung her umbrella this way and that, collecting the glowing drops. But then she saw something—a small star that had fallen from the sky, looking sad and lonely.
"We can't leave it," Lily said, and despite Fin's warning that they were running out of time, she swooped down to rescue the star, tucking it safely into her pocket.
Back in her room, Fin helped her pour the papaya moon drops into small jars. "These will last you a whole year," he said. "One drop each day will give you the Vitamin of Wonder. It helps you see magic everywhere!"
Lily looked at the lonely star in her pocket. It was twinkling happily now. "What about the star?"
Fin smiled. "That's the real treasure, Lily. The Vitamin of Wonder is wonderful, but kindness is the most powerful magic of all."
The next morning, Lily's little brother was crying because he couldn't find his favorite toy. Lily remembered the Vitamin of Wonder, but instead of using it herself, she gave him a drop from her jar. Suddenly, he stopped crying and laughed—he'd found his toy hiding in plain sight!
That night, Fin glowed extra bright. Lily had learned the moon's secret: the best way to keep wonder alive was to share it. And every night, the rescued star on her windowsill twinkled, reminding her that kindness and wonder were the best vitamins of all.
