Padel and the Secret Stream
Padel was a curious girl with golden curls and a spotted dog named Whiskers. Every afternoon, they explored the deep green woods behind their cottage, searching for magic.
One Tuesday, something extraordinary happened. Whiskers started barking at a clump of ferns. When Padel pushed them aside, she gasped. A hidden stream bubbled up from the ground—and the water was bright orange, glowing like liquid sunshine!
"That's impossible!" Padel whispered. But it was true. The orange water sparkled with tiny flecks of light, and where it flowed, flowers grew instantly.
Suddenly, a tree frog hopped onto a rock. But this wasn't an ordinary frog. He wore a tiny acorn cap like a hat.
"I'm Bristle, the forest spy," the frog announced. "I've been watching this secret stream for three hundred years. You found it—now you must prove your heart."
Bristle explained that the orange water granted one wish to anyone pure of heart. Greedy people turned the stream dark forever.
Padel's mind raced. She could wish for infinite candy! Or a castle! But then she spotted a baby bird fallen from its nest, wing bent at an odd angle. The mother bird chirped desperately above.
"I wish," Padel said firmly, "for this little bird to fly again."
The orange water surged upward, wrapping around the bird like glowing ribbons. In seconds, the bird fluttered its wings—completely healed! It soared into the sky, singing joyfully.
Bristle smiled. "You chose wisely. The magic honors kindness, not selfishness."
From that day on, Padel and Whiskers became the stream's guardians. The orange water never worked for Padel again, but something better happened. Whenever someone in the forest was hurt or lost, the water glowed extra bright, guiding Padel to help them.
She never needed wishes. She had discovered something far more powerful: the magic of a kind heart, a faithful dog, and the courage to do what's right.
