Padel and the Not-So-Scary Zombie
Padel was a small orange cat with the fluffiest tail in the whole neighborhood. She loved exploring, especially as Halloween approached.
One evening, Padel heard the older cats talking.
"Stay away from the old house by the woods," they whispered. "A zombie lives there!"
Padel's ears perked up. She had never seen a zombie before. What did they look like? Were they really scary? Or maybe they just needed a friend?
That night, under a bright full moon, Padel crept toward the old house. Her paws made soft crunching sounds on the autumn leaves. Green lights flickered in the windows. Strange moany sounds floated through the air.
But Padel kept going. She was the bravest little cat.
Suddenly, a figure shambled out from behind the house. It was lopsided and bumpy, with one sock sliding off. Its skin looked patchy and greenish-gray.
"Braaains," the figure moaned, then sighed deeply. "Or maybe just... someone to talk to?"
Padel's heart thumped, but she noticed something. The zombie didn't look scary. He looked lonely. His shoulders slumped, and his eyes were sad.
"Hello?" Padel meowed softly.
The zombie jumped! "A cat! You're not scared of me?"
"Should I be?" Padel asked, tilting her head. "You seem nice."
The zombie's face lit up. "I am! I'm Ziggy. Everyone runs away because I look spooky. I just want to play padel with the neighborhood kids. They play every afternoon, and I watch from behind the trees. I love padel!"
Padel's eyes twinkled. "I have an idea!"
The next afternoon, Padel marched right up to the padel court where the children were playing. Ziggy shuffled behind her, looking nervous.
"This is Ziggy!" Padel announced. "He loves padel!"
The children gasped. But then they saw Ziggy's gentle smile and the way he politely tipped his patched-up hat.
"Can I really play?" Ziggy asked.
That day, Ziggy played his very first game of padel. He wasn't very good, but everyone laughed and had fun. Padel sat on the sidelines, her orange tail swishing happily.
That Halloween, Ziggy wasn't lonely anymore. He had friends, a favorite game, and the bravest little cat who taught everyone that sometimes, the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to see who they really are.
