Oliver's Magical Baseball Summer
Oliver sat by the edge of the swimming pool, dangling his feet in the cool blue water. It was the hottest day of summer, and he was supposed to be playing baseball with his friends. But Oliver had been too afraid to join the game. What if he missed the ball? What if everyone laughed at him?
"I'll never be good at baseball," he sighed, watching a dragonfly skim across the pool's surface.
Just then, something round and bright orange rolled across the grass and stopped right beside his sneaker. It was a baseball—but not just any baseball. This one glowed like a tiny sunset!
Oliver picked it up. The ball felt warm in his hands, almost magical. Without thinking, he tossed it gently toward the pool.
*SPLASH!*
But instead of sinking, the orange baseball floated. Then, something extraordinary happened. The water began to ripple and swirl, rising up until it formed the shape of a enormous bull—a bull made entirely of shimmering water!
"Hello, Oliver!" the water bull said in a deep, friendly voice. "I'm Barnaby. I've been waiting for someone brave enough to throw that magic baseball."
"But I'm not brave," Oliver whispered. "I was too scared to play with my friends."
Barnaby smiled. "True bravery isn't about not being afraid. It's about being scared and doing something anyway. Here—catch!"
The bull tossed the orange baseball back. Oliver caught it automatically, surprised by how natural it felt in his glove.
"You see?" said Barnaby. "You're already a baseball player. Now, go show your friends what you can do!"
Oliver's heart filled with courage. He grabbed the magic baseball and ran toward the field where his friends were playing.
"Wait for me!" Oliver called out. And for the first time, he wasn't afraid. He was just a boy who loved baseball, ready to play.
That summer, Oliver became the best player on his team. And whenever he felt nervous, he'd look at the pool and remember Barnaby's lesson: the bravest thing you can do is try, even when you're scared.
