Oliver Orange's Grand Adventure

swimmingrunningorange

Oliver was the smallest orange on the tree, but he had the biggest dreams. While the other oranges were content hanging in the sunshine, Oliver wanted to see the world beyond the orchard.

One morning, when a gentle breeze shook the branches, Oliver made his choice. He let go and tumbled down through the leaves, bouncing on the grass below.

"I'm finally free!" Oliver cheered. He started running across the meadow, his round body rolling faster and faster. He rolled past startled rabbits and through fields of wildflowers until he reached the edge of Sparkle Creek.

The water looked deep and mysterious. Oliver had never imagined swimming before—after all, oranges usually sink! But a sad little frog sat by the bank, crying because her favorite shiny pebble had fallen into the middle of the creek.

"I'll help you!" Oliver called out bravely. He took a deep breath and plopped into the water. To his surprise, he didn't sink! The magic of his brave heart kept him floating, and he began swimming with strong, determined strokes.

Oliver found the pebble and carried it back to the frog in his mouth. She was so happy that she gave him a magical lily pad as a thank-you gift.

"This will help you on your journey," the frog said.

Oliver continued running through the forest, meeting new friends and having wonderful adventures. He learned that being small didn't mean you couldn't do big things, and that helping others was the greatest adventure of all.

When winter came, Oliver returned to his orange tree, sharing stories of his travels with all the young oranges, who listened with wide eyes, dreaming of their own adventures someday.

And sometimes, if you visit an orchard at sunset, you might still see a tiny orange rolling bravely toward its next adventure.
