Mittens and the Star Vitamins
Mittens was a small orange cat with the softest fur in the whole village. Every night, she climbed the tallest palm tree in her grandmother's yard, reaching higher and higher until she could touch the sparkling stars.
One magical evening, something extraordinary happened. As Mittens balanced on a swaying palm frond, tiny glowing droplets began falling from the sky. They twinkled like mini-stars, landing gently on her nose and paws.
"What are you?" Mittens whispered, catching one in her paw. It pulsed with warmth, making her feel strong and happy.
An old owl hooted from below. "Those are star vitamins, little one! They fall only once every hundred years. Whoever eats them will never get sick!"
Mittens looked at the glowing droplets in her paw. She could eat them all and become the healthiest cat ever! But then she remembered her friend Toby, a tiny puppy who was always too weak to play. She thought of Mrs. Peabody, whose arthritis kept her from gardening.
The palm tree swayed gently as Mittens made her choice. She carefully gathered every star vitamin in her favorite leaf basket.
"I'm not keeping these," Mittens declared. "They're for my friends!"
That night, Mittens became the most important cat in the village. She shared each glowing vitamin with someone who needed it most. Toby got three and could finally run and play. Mrs. Peabody received two and danced in her garden the very next day.
By morning, all the star vitamins were gone. Mittens curled up in her palm tree, tired but happy. She hadn't kept any for herself, yet she felt stronger than ever before.
Sometimes, the old owl visited. "You were foolish to give them away," he'd say.
But Mittens would just purr and smile. "I wasn't foolish," she'd say. "I was filled up by helping others. And that's the best vitamin of all."
And every night, when she climbed her palm tree to watch the stars, Mittens knew the truth: sharing magic is the greatest magic of all.
