Maya's Enchanted Pond

Seven-year-old Maya discovered something magical behind her house. An old stone pond shimmered with secrets she'd never noticed before. When she peered into the crystal water, a bright orange **goldfish** popped its head up!

"Hello, Maya! I've been waiting for you!" the fish said cheerfully.

Maya rubbed her eyes in disbelief. "Fish can't talk!"

"I can when you believe in magic," the goldfish – whose name was Gill – said with a wink. "Want to come **swimming** with me?"

Before Maya could answer, she found herself diving into cool, sparkly water. Amazingly, she could breathe! Underneath, a whole underwater kingdom awaited – castles made of pearl, gardens of glowing seaweed, and fish schools that performed beautiful water ballets.

Gill showed Maya the most amazing sight – fields of emerald **spinach** plants that grew underwater and made anyone who ate them able to speak every language in the sea!

"We share this with visitors who become true friends," Gill explained.

But Maya noticed something sad – all the sea creatures were gathered around a mysterious glowing object at the bottom of the pond. It looked just like her older brother's **iPhone**, but it was covered in ancient symbols.

"That's a trapped star," Gill whispered sadly. "Long ago, it fell from the sky and put everyone under a spell. They forgot how to play, how to imagine, how to be friends."

Maya knew what to do. She swam down and touched the device with both hands. "Wake up, star! The sea needs your light!"

The device dissolved into millions of sparkling lights that floated up to the surface. The spell broke! Fish started playing games again. Turtles began telling stories. Octopuses organized underwater talent shows.

"Thank you, Maya!" Gill cheered. "You reminded us that magic comes from friendship and imagination, not from staring at screens all day!"

From that day on, Maya visited her underwater friends often. She learned that real adventures are better than anything on a phone, and that the best magic is the magic of friendship.
