Maya and the Golden Sphinx
Maya had the most wild and curly hair in her whole class. It bounced when she walked and puffed up like a cloud when she ran. One afternoon, while playing behind her house, she spotted something strange—a shimmering golden cable stretching from her backyard all the way up to the clouds!
Maya's fingers tingled with excitement. She gave the cable a gentle tug, and a tiny golden basket appeared. Without thinking twice, she climbed in and WHOOSH—up she floated, higher and higher!
At the top of a fluffy cloud sat an enormous sphinx with emerald-green eyes and wings like a sunset. But the sphinx looked very sad.
"Hello," Maya said bravely.
The sphinx sighed. "Hello, little one. I am the Cloud Sphinx, guardian of the sky. But I have forgotten my magic riddle, and without it, I cannot protect the dreams of children."
Maya's heart went out to him. "Maybe I can help!"
The sphinx smiled weakly. "You need special sky-strength for this journey. Do you have any magic vitamins?"
Maya reached into her pocket and pulled out her orange vitamin. "My mom says these give me energy to play and dream big!"
She shared it with the sphinx, and suddenly they both glowed with golden light!
"Now I remember!" the sphinx roared happily. "The magic riddle is: What has hands but cannot clap, a face but cannot smile, and helps children every single day?"
Maya thought hard. Then she gasped. "A clock!"
"YES!" The sphinx did a happy spin. "You are clever and kind. Will you be my friend?"
Maya hugged the sphinx's fuzzy paw. "Forever!"
Every day after school, Maya climbed the golden cable to visit her friend. They told stories, played cloud-tag, and protected children's dreams together. And Maya's hair? It became even wilder and more magical—filled with stardust from her adventures above.
She learned that the best friendships come from helping others, and that being kind is the greatest magic of all.
