Max and the Storm Hat
Max loved his grandfather's old hat. It was blue and floppy, with a silver star stitched right in the center. But what Max didn't know was that this wasn't just any hat.
One rainy afternoon, Max wore the hat while playing in his backyard. Suddenly, the sky grew dark, even though it had been bright moments before. CRACK! A bolt of lightning struck right in front of him.
Max ducked behind the oak tree, peeking out with wide eyes. But instead of burning the grass, the lightning had turned into something magical — a tiny, glowing bull the size of a puppy!
The little bull shimmered like a sparkler, its coat made of crackling blue light. It didn't look scary at all. In fact, it looked lonely.
"Hello," Max whispered, stepping forward. The lightning bull trotted over, nuzzling Max's hand with a nose that felt warm, not hot. It let out a happy brrr-rrr sound, like distant thunder.
"You're lost, aren't you?" Max realized. He picked up his hat and noticed something new — words appeared on the inside band: *Storm Caller's Hat — For summoning friends on cloudy days.*
Grandpa had been a storm chaser! This hat could call lightning creatures from the sky!
The bull nudged Max's pocket, and Max found himself sharing his apple slices. They became best friends instantly. Max named the bull Sparky, and whenever it stormed, Sparky would visit through the magic hat.
But Max noticed something sad. Every time the weather cleared, Sparky grew weaker.
"You belong in the clouds, don't you?" Max said sadly.
Sparky nodded, then did something amazing — he touched Max's forehead with his glowing nose, and Max suddenly understood: sometimes the best friends are the ones you can't keep, but the ones you visit whenever the storms roll in.
Max helped Sparky back into the sky through the hat's magic. Now, every stormy day, Max puts on his grandfather's hat and waits for the familiar brrr-rrr of his lightning friend returning to play.
