Max and the Magic Sphinx

Max loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he'd grab his favorite red hat and run to the park to practice hitting. But nobody wanted to play with him. The other kids said he was too small.

One afternoon, Max sat near the old fountain, feeling sad. His red hat sat beside him. Suddenly, the water began to glow golden! A creature rose up—not scary at all, but friendly. It had a lion body, eagle wings, and a wise face.

"I am Cleo," said the sphinx. "I've watched you practice. Why so lonely, little friend?"

"Nobody wants to play baseball with me," Max whispered.

Cleo's eyes sparkled. "Perhaps you need the right teammates!"

Suddenly, a wet, happy dog jumped out of the fountain! "Woof!" barked Barnaby, shaking water everywhere. He'd been swimming in the magical water.

"Barnaby loves baseball!" Cleo announced. "And so do I!"

Max couldn't believe it. The sphinx spread her wings. "I'll pitch!" Barnaby barked and ran to the outfield.

The game was magical! Cleo could throw balls that sparkled like stars. Barnaby was amazing at catching—even while swimming in the fountain between innings! Max hit home run after home run.

"You're not too small," Cleo said wisely. "You just needed friends who see your heart, not your height."

Max smiled bigger than ever. Baseball wasn't about winning alone. It was about friendship and fun!

The three friends played until sunset. Max put on his red hat, knowing tomorrow would bring another magical game with his new best friends.
