Max and the Friendly Zombie

Max was running through the sunny park, his dog Sunny bouncing happily beside him. Sunny was the best dog in the whole world — a golden retriever with fur that shined like sunshine. They played their favorite game every Saturday afternoon — Sunny would chase her favorite blue ball, and Max would chase Sunny!

One day, Sunny ran faster than ever before, darting behind an old oak tree and disappearing. "Sunny!" Max called, running after his faithful dog. But when he reached the tree, he stopped in surprise.

There stood a zombie!

But this wasn't like the zombies in Max's scary storybooks. This zombie had bright green skin that sparkled like emeralds in the sunlight. His clothes were colorful patches of rainbow fabric, stitched together with golden thread. And instead of groaning, he was giggling!

Sunny was wagging her tail so hard her whole body wiggled. The zombie was gently throwing her blue ball, and she would catch it and bring it back, dropping it at his feet with a happy bark.

"Hello," Max said bravely, stepping closer. "I'm Max."

"I'm Zed!" the zombie replied, his voice sounding like crunching autumn leaves — not scary at all, just different. "I've been so lonely in this park. Everyone runs away when they see me."

Max looked at Zed carefully. Zed's eyes were kind and twinkled like stars. He wasn't scary at all — he was just different. And sometimes, being different can feel very lonely.

"Well," Max said with a smile, "you're Sunny's new best friend. And if Sunny likes you, then I think you're pretty wonderful too."

From that day on, Max, Sunny, and Zed played together every weekend. Zed taught Max how to make funny faces that looked just like a zombie, and Max taught Zed how to play tag. Zed was surprisingly fast for a zombie!

The other children in the park were scared at first, but Max explained, "Zed might look different, but he has the kindest heart. Sometimes the best friends are the ones you least expect."

Soon, all the children were playing with Zed too. They learned that scary-looking things aren't always scary, and that friendship comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors — even green!

And every afternoon, you could find Max running through the park, Sunny and Zed right beside him, three friends proving that the best adventures happen when you're brave enough to say hello.
