Luna's Magic Match

Luna was a fluffy orange cat who loved to watch. Every day, she sat by the window while her girl, Sophie, tapped away on her iPhone. "Just one more level," Sophie would say, her thumbs dancing across the glowing screen.

One sunny afternoon, Sophie's dad called from the backyard. "Sophie! Want to learn padel? It's like tennis, but the ball bounces off walls!"

Luna perked up, her whiskers twitching. She loved chasing things — especially bouncy things.

But Sophie didn't move. "Maybe later," she murmured, eyes fixed on her iPhone game.

Luna stretched, then did something she'd never done before. She gently batted the iPhone with her soft paw, then nudged it off the couch. It landed with a soft thud on the carpet.

"Hey!" Sophie reached for it, but Luna had already bounded toward the back door, meowing loudly.

Curious, Sophie followed. In the backyard, her dad held a funny-looking racquet. "This is a padel racquet," he explained. "The court has glass walls, so the ball keeps bouncing. Want to try?"

Sophie hesitated. She missed her iPhone. But then Luna appeared, carrying a small blue ball in her mouth. She dropped it at Sophie's feet and looked up with big green eyes.

Sophie laughed and picked up the racquet. When she hit the ball, it sailed through the air and — PING! — bounced off the back wall, coming right back. Sophie scrambled to return it, giggling as she ran.

For an hour, they played padel together. Sophie's thumbs were tired from swiping screens, but her legs felt strong and happy. Luna darted around, chasing balls and sometimes pouncing on them triumphantly like a tiny lion.

"You're a natural!" her dad said, high-fiving her.

That evening, Sophie's iPhone lay forgotten on the couch. Instead, she sat petting Luna, who purred loudly like a little motor. "Thanks, Luna," Sophie whispered. "Real play is way better."

From that day on, Sophie learned something magical: screens are fine sometimes, but nothing beats the feeling of wind in your hair, a racquet in your hand, and a cat who knows exactly what you need.
