Luna's Lightning Hat

Luna discovered the old velvet hat in her grandmother's attic, tucked inside a dusty trunk. It was deep purple with golden stars stitched around the brim. Something about it made her heart flutter like hummingbird wings.

That night, a thunderstorm rumbled outside Luna's window. Rain tapped against the glass like tiny fingers. She placed the hat on her sill and watched in wonder as a bolt of lightning flashed — and somehow danced straight toward her room!

The lightning spiraled into the hat with a soft whoosh. Inside the velvet crown, something glowed. Luna peeked inside and found a single shimmering orange tablet. It smelled like sunshine and oranges.

"A magic vitamin," she whispered, her grandmother's voice echoing in her memory: *"Some vitamins give you strength, child. Others give you kindness. The rarest ones give you courage."*

Luna swallowed it. Warmth spread through her chest, her arms and legs tingled with energy, and suddenly she could understand the squirrels chattering outside about finding nuts!

The next morning, she spotted her friend Toby crying by the school fence. His beloved puppy, Peanut, had chased a squirrel into the forbidden woods and hadn't come back.

"I'll help," Luna said, her new vitamin-powered courage glowing inside her. She placed the lightning hat on her head.

Together, Luna and Toby searched the woods. Luna could hear Peanut's terrified whimpers — the puppy had fallen into a ravine! Using the hat's magic, Luna summoned another lightning bolt, which created a glowing rope of pure light. Toby climbed down, scooped up Peanut, and they pulled him to safety.

That evening, the hat produced one final vitamin — a green one this time. Luna gave it to Toby, whose face lit up like the moon itself.

"For you," she said. "For being brave too."

And Luna learned that the best magic isn't lightning or vitamins — it's friendship and helping others.
