Luna's Golden Wish
Luna had the most unusual hair in the entire village. It was the color of a ripe orange, wild and curly like sunshine itself. Children would ask if she could give them orange hair too, and Luna would laugh, tossing her copper curls. But she didn't know what made her special yet.
One summer afternoon, Luna followed a sparkling path through the forest until she found a hidden pond. The water shimmered like liquid diamonds, and something bright flashed beneath the surface. A goldfish! But this was no ordinary fish — its scales were actual gold, and when it surfaced, it spoke in a voice like tinkling bells.
"I've been waiting for someone with sunset hair," the goldfish said. "My name is Finley, and I grant one true wish to those with kind hearts."
Luna's eyes widened. She could wish for anything! But then she noticed Finley looked lonely. The beautiful pond had no other fish, no frogs, no dragonflies.
"I wish..." Luna began, then stopped. "I wish for you to have friends who will stay forever."
Finley's golden scales glowed brighter than ever. Tears of joy mixed with the water around him. The pond suddenly filled with fish of every color — silver and blue and pink and green — all darting around Finley like living rainbows.
"You didn't wish for yourself," Finley marveled. "That's the rarest wish of all."
He placed a small orange scale on Luna's hand. "Keep this, and whenever you're near water, we'll be friends."
Luna visited the pond every day, and her orange hair seemed to sparkle even more than before. She learned that the best wishes aren't the ones that change us — they're the ones that help others.
And sometimes, if you look very closely at a sunset, you might see a girl with orange hair skipping beside a pond, where a little goldfish with golden scales still waits for his best friend.
