Luna and the Riddle Sphinx
Luna discovered the purple velvet hat hidden in a dusty corner of her grandmother's attic. It sparkled with tiny silver stars that seemed to twinkle even in the shadows.
"What's this?" Luna whispered, lifting the hat gently.
Barnaby, her loyal golden dog with one floppy ear, wagged his tail and let out a curious bark. Luna placed the hat on her head—and suddenly, the attic dissolved into golden swirling light!
When the spinning stopped, Luna and Barnaby stood on warm sand beneath a sky painted with stars twice as bright as any they'd seen before. Before them rose a magnificent creature with the body of a lion and the head of a wise woman. It was a sphinx!
"Welcome, young traveler," the sphinx spoke, her voice like gentle wind over sand. "I have waited centuries for someone wearing the Star-Hat of Imagination."
Luna clutched Barnaby's fur. "You're... you're real?"
"Everything is real when you believe," the sphinx smiled. "But I am lonely. Will you answer my riddle?"
"What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?"
Luna thought hard. She looked at Barnaby, who stood on four legs. She thought about how she walked on two. And she remembered her grandfather using a cane—three legs!
"A person!" Luna exclaimed. "A baby crawls, grown-ups walk, and some use canes when they're old."
The sphinx's eyes shone with happiness. "You see with your heart, not just your eyes. That is the greatest wisdom."
She touched Luna's hat with her paw. "You and your brave dog may visit anytime. The Star-Hat will always bring you here."
Luna hugged the sphinx's warm, furry cheek. Barnaby licked her nose. In a swirl of golden light, they returned to the attic, but Luna knew her life would never be the same. Some adventures, she realized, are just a hat away.
