Luna and the Lightning Cat
Luna was sitting on her front porch when the sky turned the color of ripe blackberries. Rain began to fall, first in drops, then in sheets. But this wasn't ordinary rain — it was sparking with tiny flashes of light.
Then she saw the cat.
He was no ordinary cat. His fur shimmered like moonlight, and his eyes glowed with the same pale yellow as the lightning that crackled across the sky. He trotted right up to Luna's porch and sat beside her, as calm as if it were a sunny afternoon.
"Hello," Luna whispered. The cat blinked slowly and nudged her hand with his nose.
Luna's dad had given her his old iPhone to play games on, but suddenly the screen flickered and went dark. The lightning outside was too strong! Luna looked at the cat, who seemed to smile.
"Come with me," the cat seemed to say with his golden eyes. He led her around the side of the house, where something amazing lay on the grass — a glowing paddle, shaped like the ones used for the game of padel that her big brother played. But this padel sparkled with rainbow colors!
Luna picked it up. It felt warm, like a fresh-baked cookie.
"It needs lightning vitamins," said a soft voice. Luna looked around. No one was there... except the cat, who was now standing on his hind legs, looking quite dignified.
"Did you just speak?" Luna asked, her eyes wide.
"I am Sparky," the cat said. "And that magical padel can grant one wish — but only if you catch lightning with it!"
Luna's heart raced. She held up the glowing padel as a bolt of lightning streaked toward the ground. She didn't run away. She didn't hide. She stood tall and swung the padel just like her brother had taught her.
CLAP!
The lightning hit the padel with a sound like thunder wrapped in a hug. The paddle glowed brighter than ever.
"Make your wish!" Sparky cried.
Luna thought hard. She could wish for anything — new toys, endless candy, a room filled with puppies. But then she looked at Sparky, who had appeared so mysteriously during the storm. What if he was lonely?
"I wish," Luna said clearly, "that every lightning storm brings a magical friend to someone who needs one."
The padel burst into a million sparkles that swirled around Luna and Sparky like glittery tornado. When the sparkles settled, the cat purred and rubbed against her legs.
"Thank you, Luna," he whispered. "You'll never be alone in a storm again."
And Luna wasn't. Every time lightning flashed, she would see something magical — a sparkle here, a glimmer there. She kept the old iPhone, but she didn't need it anymore. She had something better than any game: a friend who appeared in the lightning and stayed in her heart forever.
