Lily and the Padel Court Goldfish

Lily walked past the padel court every day after school, her racquet bag heavy on her shoulder. She loved the game, but she had no one to play with. All the other kids had partners, and they laughed and rallied while she watched from outside the fence.

One afternoon, something splashed in the fountain near the courts. Lily peeked over the stone rim—and saw a goldfish unlike any she'd ever seen. It shimmered with rainbow scales, and when it looked at her, its eyes sparkled like tiny stars.

"Hello," whispered Lily. "Do you like padel too?"

The goldfish swam closer, then—to her amazement—it leaped straight out of the water and grew! In seconds, it became a girl about Lily's age, wearing a dress that shimmered like fish scales in sunlight.

"I'm Marina," the girl said. "And I LOVE padel."

Lily's eyes widened. "You'll play with me?"

"Better," said Marina with a wink. "I'll teach you the magic shots."

Every afternoon, they played padel together. Marina's serves curved like swimming fish, her volleys sparkled like sunlight on water, and she never missed. Lily improved so much that soon other kids noticed.

"Hey Lily," called a boy named Jake. "Want to play doubles?"

Marina smiled knowingly. "Go ahead. You don't need me anymore."

"But you're my best friend!" said Lily.

"True friends aren't possessive," Marina said softly. "They help you grow, even when it means letting go."

And with a splash, she returned to the fountain—a beautiful goldfish once more.

Lily joined the game, and now she plays padel with lots of friends. But before every match, she visits the fountain, where a special goldfish swims to the surface and winks.

Some friends, she learned, come in the most unexpected forms—and the best ones help you find your way back to yourself.
