Lily and the Lightning Bugs
Lily loved summer evenings in her backyard. While other kids were inside watching TV, she liked sitting by the edge of her family's pool, watching the day turn into night.
One warm evening, as the first stars began to twinkle overhead, Lily noticed something amazing. Tiny lightning bugs were dancing above the pool's surface, their lights flickering like tiny stars that had fallen to earth. They moved in swirling patterns, as if performing a magical dance just for her.
Then it happened — a real storm began to build far away. Lightning flashed across the sky, creating huge reflections that danced across the pool water. But the lightning bugs didn't fly away. Instead, they seemed to glow even brighter, their tiny lights matching the big flashes above.
'Whoa,' Lily whispered, leaning closer. 'It's like you little guys are having your own lightning show!'
Suddenly, one lightning bug landed right on her knee. Its light pulsed softly, and Lily could almost hear it saying hello. She held very still, afraid to scare her new friend.
'My grandma says lightning bugs carry special magic in their lights,' Lily remembered. 'She calls it glow power — like a vitamin that makes them shine and helps them light up the night.'
The little bug flickered twice, as if nodding, then flew back to join its friends above the pool. All the lightning bugs began moving together in one big swirling pattern, their lights creating a beautiful show against the dark sky.
Lily watched until her mom called her inside for bedtime. As she headed to the door, she waved goodnight to her lightning bug friends. They flickered back — tiny sparks of magic that would be there tomorrow, and every summer night after.
That night, Lily dreamed of lightning bugs dancing over pools of starlight, their tiny lights carrying enough glow vitamin to brighten the whole world. And she knew that magic wasn't just in fairy tales — sometimes, it was right in her own backyard, waiting for someone who bothered to look.
