Lightning's Magic Vitamin
Lily's best friend was a golden retriever named Lightning who loved to chase storms. One rainy afternoon, Lightning returned from the woods carrying something glowing in his mouth – a tiny crystal that pulsed like a heartbeat.
"What is it, Lightning?" Lily asked, kneeling in the wet grass.
The dog dropped the crystal into her cup of water. Immediately, the water began to shimmer and swirl, turning colors like a rainbow trapped in liquid. Lightning barked happily, nudging Lily's hand.
"It's a magic vitamin!" Lily gasped, understanding dawning on her. "A storm vitamin!"
She dipped her finger into the glowing water and touched Lightning's forehead. Suddenly, the dog could speak!
"The storm gave us a gift," Lightning said, his tail wagging furiously. "Now we can help our friend Willow."
Willow was the oldest tree in the forest, and her leaves had been turning brown. Lily and Lightning rushed to her, carrying the magic water. But when they arrived, other animals had gathered – rabbits, squirrels, even a shy fawn. They all looked worried.
"Only a drop for each," Lightning said wisely. "This vitamin must be shared."
Lily carefully placed one shimmering drop on Willow's roots, then gave drops to all the animals who needed it. The tree's leaves turned green again, and the animals bounded away with renewed energy.
But the magic water was almost gone. Lightning looked at the remaining drops, then at Lily.
"Save the last one," he said. "For someone who really needs it."
That night, Lily kept the last drop in a jar by her window. Lightning curled up beside her, both of them watching the clouds drift by, already wondering where the next storm would bring them adventure.
Sometimes the best magic isn't what you keep – it's what you give away.
