Leo's Lightning Baseball Summer
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he could be found in the backyard, practicing his swing and dreaming of hitting a home run. But lately, his batting average was dropping, and he felt tired all the time.
"Maybe you need more energy," his friend Maya suggested, pulling something from her pocket. "My mom gave me this special vitamin. It's supposed to make you stronger and faster."
Leo wasn't sure about magic vitamins, but he really wanted to help his team win the big game coming up on Saturday. "Okay, I'll try it."
That afternoon, Leo felt different. He started running around the bases faster than ever before. His bat seemed lighter, his arms stronger. "This vitamin is amazing!" he cheered.
But something strange happened during Friday's practice. As Leo rounded third base, he saw a flash of lightning streak across the sky, even though it was sunny. The lightning bolt looked like it was pointing toward the old oak tree behind the field.
"Did you see that?" Maya asked, her eyes wide. "It looked like the lightning was trying to tell us something."
Curious, Leo and Maya ran to the oak tree. There, stuck in a hollow, they found an old baseball covered in dirt. Leo picked it up and noticed something scratched into the leather: "True strength comes from the heart, not a pill."
Leo suddenly understood. The vitamin hadn't made him faster — believing in himself had. The real magic was in his confidence and the friendship that helped him discover it.
"Thanks, Maya," Leo said, tossing the old baseball aside. "I think I'm ready for Saturday's game. And I don't need any special vitamins."
The next day, Leo stepped up to the plate, took a deep breath, and swung with all his heart. The ball sailed over the fence — a perfect home run! His teammates cheered, and Maya waved from the dugout. Leo smiled, knowing the real victory wasn't just the run he scored, but the lesson he'd learned about believing in himself.
