Leo and the Starlight Hat

Leo loved exploring his grandmother's attic. Rain pattered against the roof as he rummaged through dusty boxes. Then something sparkled in the corner—a velvet hat shimmering with tiny stars, as if someone had captured pieces of the night sky.

Curious, Leo placed the hat on his head. WHOOSH! The attic dissolved into golden mist. When the sparkles cleared, Leo stood in a meadow filled with flowers that hummed gentle melodies.

"Welcome!" rumbled a deep, friendly voice. A enormous bull with fur like golden honey and kind eyes trotted toward him. "I'm Barnaby. The Starlight Hat brought you here!"

"Where is here?" Leo asked, amazed.

"The Land of Forgotten Wishes!" Barnaby said. "But something is wrong. The Great Pyramid of Dreams has stopped glowing."

Leo gasped. In the distance, a magnificent pyramid rose toward the clouds, its crystal sides usually bright with rainbow colors. Now it looked gray and sleepy.

"What happened?"

"A poor lonely creature guards it," Barnaby explained sadly. "Everyone calls it a zombie because it shuffles slowly and speaks in whispers. But truly, she's just the Keeper of Lost Dreams, and she's terribly lonely. No one ever stays to say hello."

Leo's heart squeezed. "Let's go meet her!"

They walked through singing meadows until they reached the pyramid. There, a gentle figure with silver hair and moss-covered robes shuffled around, collecting fallen stars that had dimmed from neglect.

"Hello?" Leo called softly.

The Keeper looked up with surprised eyes the color of twilight. "You... you aren't running away?"

"Why would we?" Leo stepped closer. "Barnaby says you keep the dreams safe. That's wonderful work!"

Tears like dewdrops rolled down her cheeks. "In a thousand years, no one has ever said that to me."

Leo took her mossy hand. "Will you be my friend?"

The Keeper's smile was like sunrise breaking through storm clouds. Around them, the pyramid flared to brilliant life, shooting rainbows across the sky. Dreams began flowing again throughout the world.

"Thank you," she whispered. "Friendship is the most powerful magic of all."

The Starlight Hat glowed one last time, and Leo found himself back in the attic, rain still pattering outside. But in his pocket, he discovered a tiny crystal star that glowed warmly whenever someone needed a friend.

Some things aren't scary at all—they're just waiting for someone brave enough to say hello.
