Leo and the Sphinx's Secret

Leo squeezed through the narrow crack in the ancient pyramid wall, his flashlight beam cutting through dust that hadn't moved for thousands of years. He'd been exploring Egypt with his parents, but he'd wandered off during the tour guide's long speech about hieroglyphs. Now he was somewhere he shouldn't be.

Something gleamed ahead. Leo crept closer and gasped. A baby sphinx no bigger than a cat sat curled around a strange glowing cable that pulsed with golden light. The sphinx had fluffy fur, tiny wings, and enormous eyes.

"You're not supposed to be here," the sphinx squeaked. "But I'm glad you came. I've been stuck for forever."

Leo knelt down. "What's your name?"

"Zari. I'm the last pyramid guardian." Zari nudged the cable. "This connects all the pyramids' magic. It broke when the last pharaoh forgot to take his daily vitamin—that's what we call the morning sunlight ritual. Without it, the cable dimmed and I got trapped guarding the Great Pyramid alone."

Leo's eyes widened. "So you need sunlight?"

"Exactly! A sun vitamin!" Zari's tiny wings fluttered hopefully. "But I can't reach the vent up there."

Leo stood on his tiptoes and spotted a small opening near the ceiling where morning light streamed in. He boosted Zari up, and the little sphinx stretched to catch a beam on her nose. Immediately, the cable flared brighter, flooding the chamber with warm golden light.

"Thank you!" Zari wrapped Leo in a fuzzy hug. "You freed me and the pyramid magic!" She pressed something into his palm—a tiny golden pyramid charm. "Now you're an honorary guardian too. Whenever you need courage, just hold this and remember: even the smallest kindness can break the oldest spells."

Leo tucked the charm into his pocket as Zari flew up the cable, disappearing into the light. He found his way back just as the tour was ending, his heart full of magic. Some secrets, he realized, were meant to be shared between friends.
