Leo and the Sphinx's Riddle Game

Leo loved **baseball**. Every Saturday, he'd grab his glove and run to the dusty diamond behind the old library. But today was different. As Leo bent to pick up his favorite ball, it rolled away—straight through a crack in the old stone wall.

"Oh no!" Leo chased after it, squeezing through the crack and tumbling into a hidden garden.

There, amidst purple flowers that hummed like tiny bells, sat the most magnificent creature Leo had ever seen. A golden **sphinx** with emerald eyes and wings like sunshine.

"You have found my secret garden," the sphinx purred, her voice sounding like wind chimes. "I am Cleopatra, guardian of the Ancient Riddles. Answer my question, and you may leave with your **baseball**. Fail, and you must stay forever."

Leo's knees trembled. "I'm not good at riddles. I'm good at sports."

Cleopatra smiled. "Then perhaps we shall play a different game."

Suddenly, a gentle **bull** with a coat like storm clouds wandered into the garden. He wore a collar of flowers and looked at Leo with sad, brown eyes.

"This is Ferdinand," said Cleopatra. "He is lost and cannot find his way home to the green meadow where the fireflies dance. He seeks a friend brave enough to help."

Leo looked at Ferdinand's kind eyes and knew what he had to do. "I'll help you!" Leo cried. "But how?"

Cleopatra nodded approvingly. "The answer to my riddle is not found in clever words alone. True wisdom lies in a kind heart." She lowered her magnificent head. "Your **baseball** shall guide you. When you throw it with a pure wish, it will show the way."

Leo took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and thought: *Help Ferdinand find his home.* He threw the ball as hard as he could.

Instead of flying through the air, the ball glowed golden and rolled steadily forward, leading them through twists and turns until they reached the most beautiful meadow Leo had ever seen. Thousands of fireflies twinkled like fallen stars.

Ferdinand bounded happily, his hooves dancing. He nudged Leo with his wet nose, and Leo knew he'd made a friend forever.

When Leo returned, Cleopatra handed him his **baseball**, now shimmering with golden light. "You have solved the greatest riddle of all," she said. "Kindness is the smartest choice."

Leo ran home, his heart full of magic, knowing that sometimes the best adventures find you when you least expect them—especially when you're willing to help a friend in need.
